Platforms for making games available to be played at BIG Festival
Below, we describe all the options of platforms for you to make your game available at the BIG Festival.
First of all, here's an example of what each game's page at BIG Festival will look like.
IMPORTANT: The event opens to the general public between the 3rd and the 9th of May. However, in order for everything to be prepared in time, we request that your game is sent to the platform of your choice as soon as possible, but not later than April 16th. That way, we will have time to test and solve any problems.
The games will be available between April 30th and May 2nd for VIP access by the press and BIG Festival partners. This VIP access will be done through a password on the BIG Festival website, which concentrates the complete list of games. Some platforms do not have control over the initial date of availability of the game, i.e. the game will be released from the moment the upload is made. Take this issue into account when choosing a platform.
Note for FREE games that are already published [PC, mobile, console, web]
For free or freemium games that are already published, the festival can offer the page with the game descriptions (example above), linking the “play” button to the place where the game is hosted /running.
Alternatively, it is possible to make the game available using one of the options below, in order to benefit from the promotional options offered by each solution.
Note: In the case of games for web /browser, unfortunately we will not have a platform partner that offers additional promotion, but of course the Festival will promote your game!
Note for PREMIUM or PAID games
We remind you that BIG Festival is a free festival and therefore our game exhibition offers a free demonstration of the selected games to visitors.
Therefore, we suggest two options for paid games to be made available without creating a problem for its studio / publisher:
Game Jolt [PC only] - partner platform
The games from the festival will be available linked to BIG Festival's community channel at Game Jolt: https://gamejolt.com/c/BIGfestival
Game Jolt will promote the games during the festival.
The game will be available for download during the period of the festival.
After you have uploaded your game to Game Jolt:
After the Festival, if you wish to remove your game from the platform, you must do it on your own so that it is no longer available to the general public. There is no DRM protection, which means that even after the Festival people who have downloaded your game will continue to be able to play it.
Please note that by submitting the game to Game Jolt, you are agreeing to the terms of service for that platform. The relationship between BIG Festival and Game Jolt concerns only the promotion of Festival’s games by the partner platform. Therefore, BIG Festival has no responsibility for any platform failures.
In case of doubts in the process of sharing the game at Game Jolt, please contact: contact@gamejolt.com
Nuuvem [PC only] - partner platform
Nuuvem is a game store and has developed a solution to run online games. It is a new solution, but it has been tested for a long time.
The platform offers the advantage that the game can be played directly through the internet browser.
The disadvantage is that it involves porting the game to the solution. Porting is usually simpler for games developed with Unity.
See here the specific manual for porting your game or demo to the platform.
[password: 4N2aU?fx]
After porting, the developer must submit the ported game (the build of the zipped game) to the BIG Festival team, who will send it to Nuuvem.
The platform will offer visibility of the game in the Nuuvem community.
Nuuvem's solution offers DRM protection, remembering that no DRM protection solution is perfect and that a person with advanced programming skills may be able to circumvent protection (as might also happen in large platforms used by everyone).
Of course, you can also release a Demo from the game instead of making the full game available. Here is an example of a demo available on the platform: https://www.nuuvem.com/item/valfaris .
Your game will be available to be played on the platform before the event, but we will only share the access link before the start dates (described above) for people involved in the preparation of the Festival.
After the Festival, games will be taken offline and will no longer be available to the general public.
Nuuvem may offer the possibility of entering into a commercial contract to keep the participating games in its store, if the person responsible for the game wishes so. The negotiation should be done directly with Nuuvem.
We remind you that by submitting the game to Nuuvem, you are agreeing to the terms of service for that platform. The relationship between BIG Festival and Nuuvem concerns only the promotion of the Festival's games by the partner platform. Therefore, BIG Festival has no responsibility for any platform failures.
Bemobi [mobile only] - partner platform
Apps Club is Bemobi's white label service that offers Android mobile games and apps stores for mobile operators in more than 35 countries around the world, including all major Brazilian operators.
During BIG, Bemobi will provide a store for the games participating in the event, allowing developers to have a space to publicize their titles to the festival´s audience.
If you choose to make your Android game or demo available in the store made available through Bemobi, the company will create an access on its platform where it will be possible to upload the title with its respective marketing materials. The APK of your game will then be made available for download and instructions on how to download it will be offered intuitively through the platform.
Bemobi will not alter the content received in any way and the title will be published exactly as received. Internal purchases, advertisements, external links and other features designed by the developers will remain untouched. In addition, the store created for the promotion of the games will not have any access restriction, so that during the period in which the titles are published, anyone who has access to the store will be able to view and download the titles that interest them.
After the Festival, the games will be taken off the air by Bemobi and will no longer be available for download. However, users who have downloaded the games will continue to have them installed on their mobile devices.
Bemobi may also offer a commercial contract for the permanence of the participating games in its stores, if it is in the interest of both parties. This negotiation should be carried directly with Bemobi.
We remind you that by submitting the game to Bemobi, you are agreeing to the terms of service for that platform. The relationship between BIG Festival and Bemobi concerns only the promotion of the Festival’s games by the partner platform. Therefore, BIG Festival has no responsibility for any platform failures.
Viveport [VR only] - partner platform
Viveport is the largest VR platform and game store in the world.
The platform is compatible with the following glasses:
If you choose to make your game or demo available on the Viveport platform, the game will be available on the platform during the Festival period.
Viveport will promote the games hosted there, in addition to the promotion made by BIG Festival.
Your game will be available to be played on the platform before the event via Beta invites, but we will only share the access link of this test environment with people involved in preparing the Festival.
After the Festival, the games will be taken off the platform by Viveport and will no longer be available to be played, remembering that no DRM protection solution is perfect and that a person with advanced programming skills may be able to circumvent protection (as might also happen in large platforms used by everyone).
Viveport may offer the possibility of entering into a commercial contract for the permanence of the participating games in its store, if the person responsible for the game wishes so. The negotiation should be done directly with Viveport.
We remind you that by submitting the game to Viveport, you are agreeing to the terms of service for that platform. The relationship between BIG Festival and Viveport concerns only the promotion of Festival games by the partner platform. In this sense, BIG Festival has no responsibility for any platform failures.
Steam or Itch.io
It is possible to share your game via Steam or Itch.io, as long as you share at least a free demo of the game, as explained above.
To do so, just upload the game on the chosen platform and share the link with BIG Festival.
In this case, the game will be promoted only by BIG Festival.
NOTE: We are in negotiations to formalize a promotional partnership with these platforms. This means that the situation might change and they might offer promotion to games shared there, especially Steam, which we have a more advanced negotiation with.
We will require your game to be on the platform for tests before the event, but we will only share the access link before the event start dates (described above) with people involved in the organization of the Festival.
After the Festival, if you wish to remove your game from the platform(s), you must do it on your own so that it is no longer available to the general public. Steam offers a DRM solution, remembering that no DRM protection solution is perfect and that a person with advanced programming skills may be able to circumvent the protection (also at Steam).
Please note that by submitting the game to Steam or Itch.io, you are agreeing to the terms of service for those platforms. If a partnership between BIG Festival and these platforms is established in the near future, it will only concern the promotion of Festival’s games by the partner platforms. Therefore, BIG Festival has no responsibility for any platform failures.
Patch Kit [Windows/Linux/Mac]
Finally, BIG Festival also offers the possibility of making your game available through a service called Patch Kit.
Patch Kit is a provider of white label services for studios that want to sell their games directly, offering a simple solution to package your game and create a launcher, which can be downloaded by the end user.
The platform offers a DRM solution by inserting a line of code in your game, according to the specific manual available here.
The responsibility for uploading the game or demo will rest with the responsible studio. BIG Festival team will be able to offer support for this or you can contact the platform at support@patchkit.net or https://discord.gg/dWXCSrJW42.
Your game will be available to be played on the platform before the event, but we will only share the access link with those involved in preparing the Festival.
After the Festival, the game must remove your game by the person responsible for the game. From then on, it will no longer be available to be played, remembering that no DRM protection solution is perfect and that a person with advanced programming knowledge may be able to circumvent the protection (as might also happen in large platforms used by everyone).
We remind you that by submitting the game to the Patck Kit, you are agreeing to the terms of service for that platform. The relationship between BIG Festival and Patch Kit concerns only the indication of the services of this platform. Therefore, BIG Festival has no responsibility for any platform failures.
